Briefing the Press … he said the Fund would be used for the establishment and maintenance of various projects in Islamic countries. The decision to create the Solidarity Fund was taken at the Islamic Sum­mit in La­­hore. … The object of the Fund is to meet the needs and requirements of Isla­mic unity, Isl­amic causes, establishment of Islamic culture and values and universities. — News agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by news agencies from New Delhi,] the [Indian] Government declared London “Financial Times” correspondent Kevin Rafferty undesirable today, barred him from entering the country and held him in an airport transit lounge until he could be put on the next flight out of the country. British Consul Adrian Beamish visited Rafferty in the lounge of Delhi airport. He said no reason had been given for the action. Rafferty is the first journalist to be barred from India under India’s emergency decree.
