WATER SCARCITY: While several areas of Gulistan-i-Jauhar enjoy consistent municipal water supply, the Sindh-Baloch Society is denied such a basic facility, forcing the residents to purchase costly water through private water tankers. The society’s administration is largely to be blamed. Broken pipelines, unmaintained storage systems, and a lack of investment in water infrastructure have together created a void that water tanker operators exploit. Families pay thousands of rupees monthly for water, which is often of dubious quality. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) must restore water supply to the society and repair the necessary infrastructure.

GLORIFYING VIOLENCE: The rather increasing trend of violent dramas being telecast on various television channels can be destructive for society. As such, many popular dramas seem to glorify the gun culture, murders as well as acts of vandalism. Moreover, characters involved in criminal activities are often portrayed as powerful or admirable, leaving a disturbing impact on the viewers. Instead of promoting peace, tolerance and positive social values, these shows fuel aggression, and normalise violence as a way to resolve conflicts. The relevant authorities should take a look at the kind of content being broadcast to the masses. There should be stricter content-related guidelines, and dramas promoting education, morality and positive values should be encouraged.

LOADSHEDDING IN THUL: The residents of Thul, the largest tehsil in Jacobabad district, are facing serious challenges due to the government’s inability to provide basic amenities. With temperatures rising, the situation is made worse by power loadshedding that lasts from 15 to 19 hours a day.

The higher authorities should address this critical issue by ensuring at least 12 hours of regular electricity supply during the intense summer season.
