TAXILA: Additional District and Sessions Judge of Taxila handed down death penalty on Friday to a man who had set his wife on fire and killed her over a domestic dispute within the limits of Wah Cantonment police station.
Police sources said 22-year-old Hajra Bibi was married to Kashif Sohail in 2019; however, the couple developed differences. The man allegedly set his wife on her, injuring her critically. She was taken to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Soon after the incident, police successfully traced and arrested the accused, presenting solid evidence in court and ensuring effective prosecution of the case. Considering the evidence, the honorable court found Kashif guilty and handed down the death sentence to him.
The court also ordered him to pay Rs300,000 in compensation. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Malik Arshad Mehmood has termed the conviction a victory for justice and the rule of law.
Meanwhile, Attock Saddar police on Friday arrested a man for alleged domestic violence. The woman, a native of Boota village, has reported to police that her husband subjected her to torture and abuse over domestic issues. Police registered a case against him and sent him behind bars.
