NAROWAL: A mob set a bus on fire after it hit and killed a young motorcyclist on the Zafarwal Shakargarh road.

Rescue 1122 spokesman said the control room received a call that a passenger bus had hit a motorcyclist. The rescue team immediately reached the spot and provided first aid to the injured identified as 25-year-old Muhammad Rizwan, a resident of Mowal of tehsil Zafarwal but he could not survive. The bus driver had fled from the spot after the accident.

On the information of the accident, Rizwan’s family and a large number of people gathered at the spot. They staged a strong protest by keeping his body on the road and smashed the passenger bus with iron rods and sticks, causing a scare for the passengers. Later, the angry protesters set the bus on fire and blocked the traffic on the Zafarwal-Shakargarh Road.

The fire vehicle also reached the spot and controlled the fire.

Police held negotiations with the angry protesters to end the protest and restore traffic flow. Rescue 1122 shifted the body to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital Zafarwal.

Asif Naveed Station House Officer Zafarwal assured the angry protesters of the arrest of the bus driver. Two hours later, the protest ended after negotiations between the police and the protesters and the traffic was restored.

Zafarwal Police Station registered a case against the bus driver, identified as Mohammad Nadeem, on the complaint of Muhammad Shahid, an uncle of the deceased.
