PESHAWAR: Senior lawyers Mohammad Habib Qureshi and Ayesha Malik have officially been declared elected as vice president (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and senior executive committee member (KP) of Supreme Court Bar Association on Friday.

According to official notification issued by the chairman of the SCBA’s election board, Zafar Mahmood Mughal, Mr Qureshi received 1,495 votes, whereas Ms Malik got 1,698 votes.

Both of them belong to Professional Group of lawyers (Hamid Khan group).

Similarly, Sawar Khan of Independent Group was also declared elected on the second seat of the executive committee from KP. He secured 1,571 votes.

Lawyers in large numbers felicitated the newly-elected SCBA office bearers here on the premises of Peshawar High Court on Friday.

They hoped that the new office bearers would strive for rule of law and upholding constitution of Pakistan.

Mr Qureshi is a former deputy attorney general who had also served as chairman of the drug court in KP.

He had earlier served as executive committee member of the SCBA, secretary of PHC Bar Association and elected member of KP Bar Council.

Ms Malik is second female from KP elected on this post. Earlier, Justice Musarrat Hilali had also been elected as SCBA executive committee member.

Ms Malik had earlier served as vice president and secretary finance of PHCBA.
