LOWER DIR: The district administration and youth affairs department in collaboration with the Blood Hero Team organised a blood screening camp and an awareness walk at the Timergara campus of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan here the other day.

The campus coordinator, Dr Minhajuddin, district youth officer Malik Shahzad Tariq, Dr Masood, chief minister of the Malakand Youth Assembly Salman Khan, chairman Qazi Hanifullah and Blood Hero Team volunteers, male and female students and faculty members participated in the event.

The blood of more than 200 volunteers was screened. The participants later held an awareness walk regarding growing thalassaemia, an inherited disease passed on from parents to children through genes.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Masood Ahmad, district youth officer Malik Shahzad Tariq and others highlighted the importance and need of blood donation for saving human lives. They said blood screening was aimed at collecting data of blood donors in the area.

The speakers asked the youth to donate blood for saving the lives of poor and innocent children. They said most of the people were not aware of thalassaemia disease.
