SHANGLA: A team of Federal Investigation Agency’s Cybercrime Wing from its Peshawar office conducted a surprise raid on the University of Swat’s Shangla campus in Lilowani area of Alpuri tehsil here on Friday and interrogated three of its employees for their alleged involvement in running fake social media accounts to malign some varsity officials.

The team interrogated a lecturer of the English department and two Class-IV employees, and also seized a computer of the English department and mobile phone of the teacher.

University’s public relations officer Rafiullah Khan confirmed to Dawn the raid and interrogation of three employees as part of an ongoing investigating into use of fake social media accounts and sharing of posts against some staff members of the university, who previously served in the Shangla campus, and have now been transferred to the main campus.

He said the FIA also summoned the three employees on Dec 26 at its Peshawar office for recording their statements.

The Shangla campus was upgraded to University of Shangla with the University of Swat vice-chancellor having been given the additional charge of VC. However, the Higher Education Commission reversed the decision when the VC highlighted financial constraints in running the Shangla varsity.

WARM CLOTHES: A non-governmental organisation from Karachi distributed warm clothes and blankets among 400 orphans in Shangla on Friday.

The orphaned children of mineworkers were called in Baily Baba area, where NGO Mustafa Foundation of Karachi distributed blankets, jackets, socks, sweaters, caps and other items among them.

Meanwhile, eight persons were injured when a car and a van collided on the Karakoram Highway in Bisham’s Shang area on Friday afternoon.

Rescue 1122 spokesperson Rasool Khan Sharif told Dawn that the injured were provided with first aid on the spot and then shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Bisham.

He said the injured hailed from Maira and Batkot areas of Bisham.
