KARACHI: A young married woman died under controversial circumstances in Korangi on Sunday, police said.

They said that 17-year-old Roma was found dead inside her home in Mehran Town. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Police Surgeon Summaiya Syed said that the body bore “no marks of violence”. She added that samples had been collected and sent for a chemical examination to ascertain the exact cause of the death.

However, the woman’s father told the media outside the mortuary that his daughter was under tremendous mental pressure and he suspected that she died from the “mental and physical torture” by her in-laws.

However, the woman’s husband Saleem told the media that he did not know as to how his wife died. He denied charges of mental or physical torture.

Korangi Industrial Area SHO Ubaidullah Khan said that the police were investigating the case, but the doctors said apparently she died of natural causes.
