In West Wharf, KPT and Keamari areas, SESSI deputy director Malik Zameer Ahmed Awan with his team held meetings with workers and employers in different offices, said the statement.

“The main task of SESSI is to register workers along with industrial and commercial establishments and provide medical treatment to workers and their dependents,” the statement quoted Mr Awan a saying. “Apart from this, pension and cash benefits are also provided to workers. The Sindh labour department is making every effort to increase the registration of workers, for which the cooperation of trade unions, including employers, is needed.”

He asked the federal institutions not to create unnecessary hurdles for the SESSI officers at establishments that fell within their jurisdictions.

“We want to make it clear that in the coming days, labourers will also be registered in government institutions where private administration and contractors are working. In this regard, correspondence has been started with Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, State Bank of Pakistan, Karachi Port Trust and some other institutions,” he added
