SWABI: People of Shagai village here blocked the Swabi-Mardan Road on Thursday to protest the killing of a resident by unidentified assailants on Wednesday night.

Mohammad Yahya, 22, was seriously injured when unidentified persons opened fire on him. He was shifted to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The protesters placed the body on the road and blocked it to traffic. They demanded the immediate arrest of the killers. They questioned why the peaceful people were being targeted frequently.

A large number of people, including politicians of various parties and local government representatives, also joined the protesters, saying that it was responsibility of the police to provide security to the citizens.

The protesters ended the road blockage after leaders of political parties and police officials urged them to take the body for burial. The police officials assured them that the accused would be arrested soon. On their assurance, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
