KARACHI: The Zilhaj moon has been sighted and Eidul Azha will be celebrated across the country on June 29, Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, chairman of the Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, announced on Monday.

Talking to media at the Met Office here after chairing a meeting of the moon-sighting committee, he said credible evidence was received from different cities of the country regarding the sighting of the Zilhaj moon.

“We contacted our regional offices and also our designated people in different towns and districts,” he said.

“The Met Office here [in Karachi] provided every possible technical support. After meeting all formalities and counterchecking all evidence, the Ruet-i-Hillal Committee officially announces the commencement of the month of Zilhaj from Tuesday, June 20. So, Eidul Azha would be celebrated on June 29,” he said.
