PESHAWAR: District and Sessions Judge, Peshawar, Ashfaq Taj visited the Peshawar Central Jail on Tuesday to probe the riots that erupted between two groups of inmates on Monday.

Cops had to use tear gas to disperse the rioters when two groups of inmates clashed inside the prison on Monday.

A statement issued here said that Mr Taj has been tasked by the Peshawar High Court acting Chief Justice Musarrat Hiali to ascertain the reasons of the prison riots and submit a report. The judge also directed the officials to shift inmates of the juvenile barrack to an open and airy barrack due to the crowded condition of their place. Mr Taj also visited the female jail and directed officials to resolve issues of the inmates.

Besides, Mr Ashfaq also ordered shifting of the 28 prisoners, who had sustained injuries during the riots, to the Lady Reading Hospital for treatment.
