SWABI: Women University Swabi has failed to recover Rs25 million tuition fees outstanding against students of various departments due to negligence of the relevant officials.

Sources in the varsity told Dawn here on Sunday that officials of various departments, particularly the finance department, had failed to timely inform the management about the matter.

They said with the passage of time the dues increased and reached Rs72 million, making it difficult for the students to deposit the huge amount.

The sources said a number of female students, who had yet to clear the dues of all the semesters, were graduating during the current year. They said heads of their respective departments came to know about the unpaid fees only a few weeks ago.

The sources said the management had decided that such students won’t be allowed to sit in the upcoming examinations. They said despite repeated warnings a number of female students did not deposit the outstanding dues.

When contacted, Vice-Chancellor Prof Shahana Urooj Kazmi told Dawn that the management had already recovered a major chunk of the outstanding tuition fee from students.

“All the departments, including the finance department, are making coordinated efforts to recover the dues from students. We have succeeded to a great extent, and hope all dues would be cleared till the end of current month,” she remarked.
