LAKKI MARWAT: Over 1,300 policemen have been deployed for the security of polio teams in Lakki Marwat district.

The five-day anti-polio campaign started on Tuesday for which the health department had constituted 995 teams to vaccinate 193,252 children under age five.

An official said that foolproof security arrangements had been made for the protection of vaccinators. He said the cops would accompany 894 mobile teams to launch the door-to-door campaign.

He said the policemen had also been deployed with 37 transit and 11 roaming teams besides guarding the health workers at 53 fixed centres set up in hospitals. He said that cops in plainclothes and special branch personnel had also been given duty in different areas.

Earlier, district police officer Ziauddin Ahmed along with SP investigation Murad Khan visited different areas in the district, including Bitani tribal subdivision, to check security arrangements made for the polio workers.

He directed the police to tighten checking on the entry and exit points and keep an eye on the movement of suspects.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Fazal Akbar banned the display of weapons and pillion riding for one month as part of security plan to maintain peace and avert any untoward incident during the anti-polio drive.

WOMEN’S CAMPUS: Bannu University of Science and Technology vice-chancellor Prof Dr Kheruzzaman inaugurated construction work on the project of setting up a women’s campus in the township area on Tuesday. The project in Bannu will cost over Rs1 billion.

Pro-VC Dr Sultan Mehmood, former district councillor Halimzada Wazir, woman campus coordinator ZakiaTanzeela Fatima, project director Imranullah and other officials were also present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC said the establishment of the women’s campus was a gift for the area people. He said the varsity administration would ensure availability of all facilities for girl students in the new buildings.
