LAHORE: The Lahore police increased security level in the city by deploying 8,000 armed personnel for T20 cricket match to be played between Pakistan and Australia at the Gaddafi Stadium.

It has also deputed 300 policemen for the security of 32 Sasta Bazaars on the recommendations of the district government.

The security plan was discussed and approved at a meeting chaired by Lahore Capital City Police Officer Fayyaz Ahmad Dev at the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) headquarters here on Monday.

PSCA Chief Operating Officer (COO) Kamran Khan, Lahore Investigation DIG Shahzada Sultan, Operations DIG Dr Abid Khan, CTO Montazir Mehdi, Operations SSP Mustansir Feroze, Admin SSP Atif Nazir, and other senior officers were also present.

On the occasion, Dr Abid Khan briefed the CCPO about the present law and order situation of the provincial metropolis, security arrangements of Lahore police for the sacred month of Ramazan and the T-20 match.

Dev directed the concerned police officers to further enhance the security in the city in view of the present situation by deputing more than 8,000 police personnel.

He asked the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit and Elite Force to conduct effective patrolling around important places and check vehicles and motorbikes at the entrances and temporary pickets.

For security of 32 Sasta Bazzars, 24 sub-divisional police officers, 29 station house officers (SHOs) and other police personnel have been deployed in Lahore.
