SWABI: The police on Tuesday arrested an Afghan national and seized a big quantity of weapons and charas he was trying to smuggle to Punjab in a car.

District police officer Mohammad Shoaib Khan said the Chota Lahor city police stopped a car near the Swabi Interchange on the Islamabad-Peshawar Motorway, and during search, found a huge cache of weapons and charas concealed in different sections of the car.

SHO Chota Lahor Jawad Khan told Dawn that an Afghan national identified as Naghmat Khan, who currently lives in Peshawar, was driving the car.

He said the Afghan had taken arms and charas from Karkhano area of the provincial capital and was smuggling the contraband to Punjab.

He said 32 pistols, two Kalashnikovs, rifles, seven repeaters, eight chargers of repeaters, four chargers 44-bore, one charger of MP5, seven chargers of SMG, two chargers of 30-bore, 5,000 cartridges of 9mm, 3,000 cartridges of 44-bore, and 1,200 cartridges of other kinds were recovered.

The police also recovered about 8kg of charas from the car.

An FIR was registered against the driver.

Meanwhile, unidentified assailants shot dead a tailor in Doubian village of Razaar on Tuesday.

The police said two attackers parked their motorcycle in front of tailor’s shop and shot dead Mohammad Tayyab inside his shop.

Mubarak Ali, father of the deceased, told the police that they had no enmity with anyone. The police registered an FIR.
