SUKKUR: Police failed to arrest any suspect involved in the killing of nine members of a family belonging to the Chachar tribe allegedly by Jagirani and Sabzoi tribesmen in Kandhkot’s riverine area on Saturday.

An FIR was registered at the Durrani Mahar police station in the riverine area on a complaint lodged by Abdul Jabbar Chachar, a relative of the victims, against some Jagirani and Sabzoi tribesmen he believed to have been involved in the attack. However, police had not so far taken any action against the suspects.

The episode has sent a wave of shock in the area and led to a series of street protests. Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party and Awami Tehreek took out rallies in Tangwani town on Monday, calling for an end to all tribal feuds causing bloodshed and destruction in the area.

The STP rally started from Jaffarabad road and marched up to bus stand where the participants held a sit-in.

Awami Tehreek workers observed a token hunger strike near a local market and raised slogans against police.

The protesters’ leaders blamed police for unabated murders in tribal rivalries and said that law enforcers had failed to rein in the warring tribes. Police had not so far arrested even a single suspect involved in the tragic incident, they said.

They demanded immediate arrest of the suspected killers and provision of speedy justice to the heirs of the victims.

Meanwhile, former provincial minister Jam Saifullah Dharejo, MPA Shaharyar Shar, former district nazim Saleem Jan Khan Mazari, Sardar Khan Mohammad Mohammadani, Sardar Liaquat Khan Malik, Aftab Haibat Khan Bajkani and other notables of different communities condoled the deaths with the victims’ heirs.
