ABBOTTABAD: An accused in a narcotics case died in police custody here on Wednesday night.

The family alleged that Chan Zeb, 38, was tortured to death in the Mirpur police station.

The police denied the allegation and claimed that the deceased was taken into custody on Wednesday night after the recovery of ice drug and was found dead in detention.

They said the body was shifted to the Ayub Teaching Hospital for postmortem after the start of a judicial inquiry into the death.

The deceased, who belonged to Gilgit-Baltistan region, lived in Kotehra Kehal area.

His family members, including women, protested against police and doctors outside the Ayub Teaching Hospital.

They accused the police of torturing the man to death.

The protesters also clashed with doctors, police officials and journalists.

They also staged a sit-in outside the DC office and demanded registration of a murder case against the relevant police officials.
