RAWALPINDI: People above the age of 65 years will get a monthly stipend from the Punjab government.

In this regard, the government has asked the district administration to verify the list of such people available with Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).

A senior official of the administration said the data available with BISP had been provided to the district administration. The record is old and needed to verify whether or not these old-age people are alive, he added.

He said the Punjab government allocated Rs3 billion in the fiscal budget 2019-20 to provide monthly allowance to the old-age persons. He said the programme would be launched in coordination with Ehsas Programme.

He said Prime Minister Imran Khan would soon launch the Bahimmat Buzurg Programme.

He said focal persons had been appointed at the tehsil levels. The social welfare department has been given the task of verifying the list of the old-age persons in their respective areas.
