SWABI: Awami National Party on Saturday expelled party’s former district general secretary Mohammad Islam Khan while the fate of six other local leaders was expected to be decided soon.

Party’s district president Amanullah said that the basic membership of Islam Khan was terminated by the provincial leadership and a notification in this regard had been issued by Bacha Khan Markaz, Peshawar.

It was stated that he had violated the party constitution and discipline, harming its position in the district while indulging in grouping.

Mr Islam had contested the 2013 and 2018 elections on ANP ticket from the provincial constituency here against Asad Qaiser and faced defeat.

Babak says no compromise on discipline

He developed differences with then district president Ameer Rehman during the 2018 election and later the party faced division into two groups.

During the recent nine-day visit of provincial president Aimal Wali Khan to the district, Mr Islam along with his colleagues stood aloof and did not attend a single gathering. Soon after the visit, a show-cause notice was issued to him. He submitted his reply, but failed to give satisfactory answers to the charges, sources said.

When contacted, provincial general secretary of the party Sardar Babak said that they would never compromise on discipline, without which the party could not be strengthened.

In reply to a question, he said that the fate of six more leaders would be decided soon.

Total seven show-cause notices had been issued to as many leaders here in district in recent days. They include Swabi tehsil president Gul Wali Khan and general secretary Hidayat Khan and former election contesting candidates Ghulam Hassan and Amjid Khan besides Faisal Khan, Pir Mohammad and Mr Islam.

KILLED: A villager Atif Khan of Maneri Bala was killed in a road accident on Saturday.

Police said that he was on way to Dagai village when his motorcycle collided with a tractor trolley. He died on the spot. An FIR has been registered in Kalu Khan police station against the tractor driver.
