KARAK: Salt miners in Karak district boycotted work on Monday to protest lack of safety gadgets and low wages.

The miners gathered near the salt mines in Bahadarkhel and held a demonstration, complaining that the contractors paid them meager wages.

District president of labour union Naveed Khattak, while addressing the workers, said that in case of any injury there was no arrangement of first aid facility for the miners. He complained that there was no arrangement of light inside the mines and they had to work in complete darkness.

Mr Khattak alleged that no compensation amount was paid to the dead and injured miners of the salt mines.

CONTAMINATED WATER: The chairman and members of Islahi committee of Guddikhel union council have complained about water contamination.

They claimed that they had got water samples tested in a laboratory in Peshawar, which proved that the water contained particles which were hazardous for human health. They demanded of the government to make arrangements for provision of clean drinking water to the people.
