A rape charge made after a kid is born and nine months after conception is unlikely to stick. Also under Indian juvenile Laws a twelve year old can at best be put in a correction home for a few months, no other punishment possible. Very unfortunate for both the kids, which is what they are.

In civilisation society people are very sensitive towards such incidences....very delicate issue if you think about both of them , the new born baby , mental state of parents of the girl and boy and other family members. When discrimination of AIDS patients , gays, transgender is not allowed in civilised societies ....let us keep niceties in tact while offering comments. A country cannot be blamed only because number of people watching porn films are ' comparatively ' more !

Instead of making fun we better do two things: a) Start efforts that such a case must not be repeated in Pakistan. b) Offer help to India to device policy educating youngsters on intimate relations. So much troubles around let Sub-continent free from such issue.

Sad to hear this news, but before all of us Pakistanis start with negative comments like what our my Indian family does to us, when they hear negative news about Pakistan (In other words stop hurting each other we are one and strong together). We should know this happens in all the South Asian countries including Pakistan. So lets sit down and find solutions rather than causing pain to each other. We need more sex education, to teach our youth about the prosperous future rather than self destruction. Disturbing and sick

we are all missing the true victim here, the poor child, who has to deal with this shame for rest of his life. The hot news and the comments by readers have already declared the verdict on this innocent life. This is not about India or Pakistan but an innocent mistake by couple off young kids

Very few people have commented on the social aspect which is the most important point to be discussed . I feel so sad to see people focusing on sensationalising of the news of a 12 year old becoming a father. Why ? Do 12 year old boys not get a hard on ? In Europe and America; girls above 13/14 can consent. In many middle eastern countries; a girl above puberty age can consent and get married at 16. It is rare though not impossible to see young teen mothers in any part of the world today. Name a country where you do not have young teen mothers @ 16. However; the most important point which is not discussed in the article and is more worrying fact is the future of the child born and how this child will be taken care of ? In our part of the world (S.E. Asia), we do not have facilities to bring up such children and the new child born will now also end up in an orphanage like his 12 year old father unlike in the West where they have facilities and government funds to run such institutions.

Who to blame? It is not rape but an illicit relationship, probably a proper sex education is lacking in the country. Otherwise, the state has 100% literacy (both male and female) and other indices are better than many European countries. And the Pakistan is the second worst country for women!

The girl's parents should not refuse to provide support to their daughter and her baby. It seems that the baby's mother and the 12 years old father both did not have proper structure for their upbringing. Growing children make mistakes and castigating them does not help the situation.I hope that the Indian authorities take a compassionate and educated approach towards this unlucky situation.

This could happen in only digital India .

Time for Pakistan Government to learn and control media, and adopt appropriate policies which may control our youth. Parents to uprise and align their supervision of kids with the current circumstances. No doubt, we are way better than Indian society.

If the male partner is older than the female partner, male is guilty and is charged as rapist, however If the female partner is older, still male is guilty ? Here I am sure that the one who lured was 16 years of age, not the one of 12 years.

Government must take strict measures to stop such henious crimes in the society. Its also parents responsibility to take care of their childs.

Oh come on! It seems that both the boy and the girl were willing partners. So why not let them get married, instead of punishing them both and the child. Why make a willing deal illegal. He's in eight grade and 12 years age? not possible, he must be at least 8(graded)+nursery(2) and at min age for admission is 4, so his age is at least 14.

What ever happened regarding the relationship of the kid and the girl; I hope, and I am sure, India will take care of the baby. It is of no fault of the baby. I wish the baby health, prosperity and happines. And sincerely hope kids are educated so that they avoid these mishaps.

If a teen aged boy is sodomised by criminal instinct of men or a 14 years old girl become mother, such incidents are not any country specific. Here is another example of lac of sex education. Which ever country it is; education is the only way to minimize unnecessary birth. 12 and 16 year old are not ready to raise a child. Making this a police case is not going to help, it will only make a criminal out of probably a good family.

Kerala state is a unique state in the whole world and this one sensational news can never conceal the achievements of the state. As a developing state in a developing country, this state has near 100 percent literacy, life expectation on par with Europe or the US, the lowest infant mortality rate almost on par with the western nations (8 ), healthy sex ratio to list a few.

Reading comments given here seems like it had been made issue of a country not the social problems which exists everywhere in the world.

I heard a story of 6 yr old girl got married to a 53 old Pedeopile some where in the world ages back. What do you say?

Instead of criticism on poor souls, we all should take it as a warning. Our own homes are at stake since even a young child has access to internet, and he/she can easily fall prey to the freely available sexual and explicit material.

This is a classic case of what happens when importance of safe sex is not discussed effectively as part of sex education. I Googled and found that kerala does have sex education as part of curriculum. If that is the case the teacher should be taken to task on imparting ineffective education.
