KARACHI: Prof Abdul Ghafoor Memon has been appointed as chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority (SLA) for a period of three years, according to an official handout issued by the Sindh information department on Monday.

“Prof Memon was declared successful after a very tough competition among 12 shortlisted candidates, who were interviewed by the search committee of the culture department,” it said.

Before finalising the decision, “the committee comprising writers and intellectuals, including secretary of culture Ghulam Akbar Laghari, Dr Kaleemullah Lashari, Shaukat Shoro, Naseer Memon, Adal Soomro and Jami Chandio, interviewed Abdul Ghaffar Daudpoto, Abdul Ghafoor Memon, Altaf Hussain Jokhio, Badruddin Soomro, Deen Muhammad Kalhoro, Habibullah Pathan, Kamal Jamro, Muhammad Ali Manjhi, Muhammad Anwar Figar Hakro, Parveen Akhtar, S. Khusro Iqbal and Shuja Ahmed Mahesar,” it said.
