RECENTLY, the Sindh home department announced 200 posts (BPS-16) of inspectors (investigation) through the Sindh Public Service Commission to deal with growing cases of crime, terrorism, violence and deviance.

The advertisement for the posts describes MSc in Criminology as required qualification for an investigation inspector, but also adds “or the degree of LLB as equal criterion for eligibility”.

It is unfortunate this advertisement violates the rights of proper criterion of qualification for the job description. Investigation aims at carrying out detailed scientific investigation of crime, evidence collection, a careful interrogation process and reporting to the police and the court to provide justice to the victim.

It is a fact that criminal investigation is properly carried out by professionals who have academic knowledge of crime and possess MSc and BS degrees in criminology and not LLB degrees.
