KOHAT: The women of Jungle Khel town on Wednesday came onto roads against prolonged loadshedding. They kept the road between KDA town and the city blocked for over two hours.
The women protesters also went to the Pesco SDO office and took a transformer to replace it with a faulty one in their locality. The protesters said they had time and again requested the concerned officials to replace the transformer, which went out of order last week, but to no avail, forcing them to pour onto roads.
The new transformer was later installed by Pesco staff in Shirin Mela locality of Jungle Khel.
Pesco has been subjecting the Jungle Khel town to long hours of power cuts as most people steal electricity and do not pay power bills. It has been alleged that Pesco meter readers are also involved in facilitating the people to use electricity through illegal means.
However, consumers in the city have also been suffering 16 hours of power outages despite paying power bills on time.
POLIO DRIVE: The Kohat deputy commissioner Capt retired Kamran Ahmed Afridi on Wednesday directed concerned officials to assign duties of female staff close to the city areas during the upcoming anti-polio drive.
Speaking at a polio vaccination committee here, Mr Afridi asked the district accounts officer to release salaries of polio staff within three days, and ensure timely payments in future, too.
The meeting was informed that for the coming anti-polio campaign, 455 mobile, 67 transit, and 12 fixed teams had been set up, besides 112 monitoring area in-charges and 12 district supervisors, to vaccinate the targeted 100,000 children. He said those parents who refused to vaccinate their children should be arrested and sent to prison.
TEACHER BOOKED: The police on Wednesday booked a schoolteacher and his colleague for attesting documents, using CNICs of another teacher.
The police registered case against the teacher, Zulfiqar Ali, and his accomplice Minhal Hussain, who are at large.
PROTEST: The Wapda hydro workers union deplored the government’s plan of privatising the profit earning organisation.
The union’s divisional chairman, Syed Younis Shah, while speaking at a weekly protest meeting on Wednesday, said the institutions privatised in the past had laid off their employees, causing misery to them.
He said that government could only privatise Wapda over their dead bodies.
INJURED: Seven tribesmen were seriously injured in crossfire between two sub clans of Zarghun Khel over a land dispute in Darra Adamkhel on Wednesday.
The army and political administration officials reached the scene to control the situation. Later, the political administration also called a jirga to cause a ceasefire between the warring tribes.
The land dispute has been running between the tribesmen of Noorany Kalay and Shapalkiwal Kalay.
The injured, Zahirullah, Afzal Khan, Nisar Khan, Syed Akbar, Mehboob Khan, Bakht Khan and Zareen Khan were taken to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar.
