PESHAWAR: Popular TV actress Aneela Ijaz died of brain tumour in a Karachi hospital the other day. She was 42. Her body was flown from Karachi and laid to rest on Saturday in a graveyard located on Polsai road, Rahat, Peshawar. Late Aneela Ijaz had launched her acting career from PTV Peshawar centre in her teens and played lead roles in over 300 Urdu, Hindko and Pashto plays.

She was recipient of numerous awards for her outstanding performance. She quit acting during late 90s after she joined PIA as airhostess. Six months ago, she was diagnosed with a brain tumour at a chronic stage, according to her family sources in Peshawar.

Her popular TV plays include ‘Pakdandi’, ‘Wapsi’, ‘Intezar’ and ‘Baarish’. ‘Faaselu ke Darmian’ was her last PTV Urdu serial while ‘Jannat’ was her last TV drama. She married twice, but had no children. Her younger sister Bushra Ijaz and her husband Ijaz Meer are noted actors.

Former producer Aziz Ejaz told Dawn that Aneela Ijaz had worked in five Urdu plays under his direction. He said that she played various types of role from humorous to serious ones. ‘Kinara’, ‘Chalte Chalte’ and ‘Jaal’ were among her super hit plays.
