LARKANA: Qazi Maqsood Gul, a renowned Sindhi poet having 10 books to his credit, died of a cardiac arrest in Karachi on Sunday. He was 65. He has left three sons and a daughter.

The body was brought to his native town, Ratodero, where the deceased poet was buried in his ancestral graveyard.

Born on April 15, 1950, Qazi Gul did his Masters in Sindhi literature and economics. He worked at a sugar mill and remained associated with it till 1994 to establish a private school next year. He rendered his educational services to students till his death.

Qazi Gul’s poetry was influenced by Atta Muhammed Hami and Mehmood Sharaf Siddiqi while in prose, he had a tilt towards Dr Abdul Majeed Sindhi’s work. He served as the Ratodero chapter secretary of the Sindhi Adabi Sangat (SAS) for two years. He also established a publishing agency and got around 30 books on a variety of subjects published, said Malhar Sindhi, the SAS joint secretary.

Qazi Gul had been a regular contributor to Sindhi newspapers. A large number of poets, artists and writers, including Adal Soomro, Ayaz Gul, Taj Joyo, Ada Qazi, Mushtaque Bukhari, Sartaj Jagirani, Bashir Shad, Akhtar Dargahi, Malhar Sindhi, Saqi Abro, Badar Dhamraho, Sarwar Saif, Manzoor Mangi, Aman Bhatti and Abdul Majeed Chandio, besides family members, relatives, friends and admirers attended the funeral.
