ISLAMABAD: Gallery6 on Thursday launched its first online exhibition, a solo show by Aqeel Javaid, a Rawalpindi-based artist. Discussing this initiative, Dr Arjumand Faisel, the curator of the gallery, mentioned that there is a growing demand by the artists for exhibiting their works, while the gallery could only hold between 10 to 12 shows in a year.

“To meet this demand, we are starting online shows on experimental basis. The art lovers can browse the show at their leisure online and those interested to buy the work can visit the gallery,” said Dr Arjumand Faisel.

Nick-named Teetu, the artist did Masters in Fine Arts from the Punjab University, Lahore, in 2006. He has held three solo exhibitions and participated in a dozen group shows. Besides painting, he has also taken part in photographic exhibitions since 2003.

Aqeel Javaid is a realistic painter and creates attractive artworks that draw immediate attention. Objects that are part of daily life are explored in his paintings with truthful and accurate depiction.

Aqeel Javaid mostly portrays his surroundings, and brings to the attention of the viewers the beauty that often is ignored in the life all around, especially the physical settings and material conditions.

He pays attention to accuracy of detail and colour, which was why some of the works achieved great depth. The presence of sticking tape and thumb-tack added interesting visual effects of unfinished work in these paintings.

Discussing his paintings, Teetu expressed: “I don’t know about style, just wished to be called a painter, I have no specific palette, never know about my mood, all the colours are mine. I am just a painter with modern ideas, having realistic manner, with surrealist thoughts.”
