RAWALPINDI: The 176th Corps Commanders’ Conference was held at General Headquarters on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.

The conference was part of a routine monthly meeting. Participants of the conference were given a detailed briefing on the overall security situation in the country, with particular reference to the progress of ongoing operations Zarb-e-Azb and Khyber-1, the ISPR reported.

The corps commanders expressed resolve to continue operations till terrorists are eliminated and vowed that terrorists will not be allowed to regroup and return to these areas, nor will they be allowed any space across Pakistan.

The COAS expressed complete satisfaction over progress made in the operations and gains achieved so far. He paid rich tributes to the courage shown and sacrifices rendered by troops during the ongoing operations. The COAS also directed all concerned that no stone will be left unturned in assisting the temporarily displaced people during their stay outside, and in their early return to their homes.

The army chief also took the corps commanders into confidence over his recent visit to Kabul and said bilateral cooperation in the field of defence and security is increasing between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

The meeting also reviewed the country's internal security along the Line of Control (LoC) and working boundary.

Last week, General Raheel had also held a meeting with Afghan president Asharaf Ghani Ahmadzai and senior military leaders in Kabul to discuss the security issues concerning both the countries.

The COAS is also set to embark on a week-long US visit on November 16. He is expected to meet with Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel and other members of the American defence establishment during the visit.
