CHITRAL: People of Laspur valley have installed a PTCL tower on self-help basis to avail the mobile phone facility first time in their lives.

Talking to Dawn here on Tuesday, Mohammad Younus, a resident of the valley, said that telephone tower had started unctioning, sending mobile signals across the valley for the first time.

He said the people were so enthusiastic about availing the mobile phone facility that they didn’t care about harsh winter and erected the tower on their own. “We even didn’t wait for PTCL to do the work itself as the company had announced to erect the tower in June, this year.

Mr Younus said the whole village took part in bringing sand, cement, steel and gravel to the site despite heavy snowfall.

He said that the telephone facility in Laspur valley would help to promote tourism as the Shandur polo ground was adjacent to the valley.

Mr Younus said that this year, people would enjoy telephone facility for the first in the highest polo ground of the world.
