Pakistan pulled off a stunning come-from-behind win over England to enter the U19 World Cup final on Monday.

Chasing a target of 205, Pakistan were 142/7 in 36.5 as some fine bowling and brilliant fielding from England tightened the noose around Sami Aslam’s men. The team's top scorer in the match Saud Shakeel (45) was also back in the hut and it seemed then that all the hard work that Pakistan had put in with the ball would go to waste.

All-rounders Amad Butt (26) and Zafar Gohar (37), however, had other ideas as they held their nerve in a 63-run partnership to take the two-time champions home in the last over of the match at the Dubai International Stadium.

A delighted Pakistan captain Sami Aslam later said: “I think some of the players played some bad shots. But I think Saud Shakeel controlled the innings well, and then Amad Butt and Zafar Gohar won us the game.

“Zafar Gohar is a very good all-rounder. We were always confident that he would win us the match. He played very sensibly and stayed till the end.”

Reflecting on the match, England captain Will Rhodes said: “Pakistan are tough opponents. We’ve played them numerous times, recently in England and I wish them the very best of luck for the final.

“We came so close that it was heartbreaking to lose the game, but this is the way cricket goes and unfortunately it didn’t go our way today.”

Well done boys. Gohar did a fine rescue job when it seemed the previous batsmen were going into self-destruct mode. I hope we can keep up the momentum in the final.

Many congratulations and heartiest felicitions to Cricket Pakistan Under-19!

What a performance and to go into the final, even though Pakistan lost to their arch-rival and defending champions India in the pre-quarter final stage! And the other finalists will be either Sth. Africa or Australia.

This is another feather in the cap of Cricket Pakistan's raw talent on display on the world stage and what better than our home ground in the UAE (for the last almost 5 years)!

Commiserations with England!

Excellent keep up the good work, good message for seniors-Pakistan Team select upcoming talented cricketers rather than continuing with Kamran, Misbah and other down the hill cricketers--best of luck to these young cricketers Under 19 Team.

Well done to the U19 Pak team. Lots of exciting players in this group. It remains to be seen if Moin Khan can blood Sami Aslam, Imam Ul Haq and the Left arm Spinner into the senior side for World cup in Australia/NZ. Some of these players deserve to go into the senior squad. Looks like this world cup U19 is Pak destined! Alas, our Indian U19 team couldn't go the distance this time around. But plenty of talent here as well.

Well played Pakistan team ! Congratulations:

What a game. Pakistani young guns were written off at the start of the tournament with people already saying that it will be India vs. South Africa in the final. Glad to know we have a future no matter how much ICC and BCCI tries to shut out Pakistanis.

Gtausif Feb 25, 2014 01:17am

Well done..our young team. I hope you lift the world cup. The nation's prayers and best wishes are with you

SYED AHMED Feb 25, 2014 02:25am

No international cricket, no funding for young cricketers, Safaris and unjust selection of player, despite all the problems and issues, PAKISTAN team at all level perform so well...CONGRATULATION to PAK team...This victory shows the talent Pakistan cricket has, Wish our leader nurture these talents...

adnan ahmed Feb 25, 2014 02:27am

Great temperament shown by the lads after the top order seemed to have initiated self-destruct. Hope this passionate recovery and victory can lead us to a more confident performance in the final and help us bring home the cup!

Riaz Feb 25, 2014 06:08am

Well done boys....great effort, after poor early discipline with the bat. Need to cope better with bouncers...that will be the strategy of SA or Australia, simple.

After beating England 11 times recently without defeat, I thought for. A minute law of probability would kick...thankfully it did not! Go boys and deliver the cup!

Shaukat Feb 25, 2014 06:30am

Dawn, why you forgot to mention who will play Pakistan in the final? This was half news which you cover.

Ossy Feb 25, 2014 10:11am

Absolutely fabulous by the youngsters - to soak up that kind of pressure and win from the jaws of defeat... Zafar and Amad's resolve must have given all 11 greens-shirts the self-belief that they can win no matter what the circumstances!

Again, congrats to the team and wishing them the best in the final.

Ahmed Feb 25, 2014 10:30am

Well done

shuaib Feb 25, 2014 11:02am

Well done boys. Keep it up for the final and beyond. We are proud of you. BTW, can someone tell where big 3s are?

BigThree Feb 25, 2014 11:18am

Another pillar (England) of the BigThree ousted after India was eliminated in QFs. Now, it's turn of Aussies to bite the dust against WI on 26th Feb. Stay tuned!!!

Well done ICC!!! you're in safe hands :)

Aimen Feb 25, 2014 12:50pm

Well done young guns of Pakistan cricket! You have made us all really proud! Now go and win the finals and bring the WC trophy home!

CricketOne Feb 26, 2014 07:07am

In your face - BIG THREE. But where did you go ? And what happened ?

Shailesh Feb 27, 2014 06:27am

@CricketOne: Good job in the minor league. Let's see how you do in the game that the big dogs play.

Reminds me of the time when the Indian newspapers would crow about all the junior tennis titles we would win. None of those champions could sniff anything in the major league.

irfan Feb 27, 2014 09:48pm

Juniors will replace pakistan A team soon........well done juniors
