LAHORE, Nov 25: The Lahore High Court on Monday again sought a reply from the federal government and the central censor board chairman on a petition challenging illegal import of Indian films.

On previous hearing the court had directed the respondents to strictly implement the ban on the exhibition of films made in India and sought a detailed reply about procedure of allowing exhibition of foreign movies in Pakistan.

A law officer on Monday sought more time to file the replies and the court adjourned hearing till Dec 12. Anchor of a private television channel had filed the petition.

The petitioner pleaded through his counsel that under the Motion Picture Act no film could be exhibited in Pakistan which was made on India’s territory. He pointed out that at least 213 Indian movies had been exhibited in Pakistan since 2006 after obtaining certificates from the authorities on the basis of fake documents.

The petitioner sought action against the importers of the Indian films on charges of smuggling and urged the court to restrain the censor board from issuing certificates to such films. — Staff Reporter
