KARACHI, May 5: The Jamaat-i-Islami alleged on Sunday that workers of its rival party attacked and torched one of its election offices in the Bahadurabad area. However, police denied it.

JI spokesman Sarfraz Ahmed told Dawn that over one dozen armed men riding on motorcycles attacked the election office set up near the Bahadurabad traffic intersection, fired into the air and set it on fire.

He accused a rival political party in the metropolis of the attack and said that the incident occurred at a time when JI chief Munawwar Hasan was addressing an election rally near the Quaid mausoleum.

However, New Town SHO Inam Hussain told Dawn that no firing incident took place there.

He said one tent of the election office caught fire mysteriously and the matter was being investigated.

Meanwhile, the Sunni Tehrik also claimed that its election office in Nazimabad No 1 was attacked on Sunday evening.

A spokesperson for the party claimed that some gunmen riding three to four motorcycles fired into the air near the election office for PS-104.

However, Rizvia society SHO Naveed Nasir said ‘one or two’ shots were fired near a closed office of the ST.
