LACK of education has hindered the progress of our country. The uneducated class remains dwelling in poverty, which is propagating several other issues. Illiteracy and poverty coexist. Such people manage to get the lowest rank in a workforce which is insufficient to fulfil the basic needs of the increasing number of their family members.

The drastic rise in the population of Pakistan is because the uneducated class has turned a deaf ear to birth control. The aftermath is lesser job opportunities, hence more unemployment.

Therefore, a slum dweller of Pakistan is likely to turn to begging or street crime for sustenance.

Female education is equally important as a literate mother can support and encourage her children’s education, unlike an illiterate mother, who can not assist or encourage her children in the educational process.

Moreover, educated women are likely to have fewer children, being aware of its pros and cons.

Our country lags behind in basic education. What makes the situation worse is our government schools, which are lacking in quality education.

Specific development programmes should be carried out so as to improve and boost the education rate of our country.

Developing countries and illiteracy do not go hand in hand, as illustrated by examples such as Bangladesh.

Moreover, parents of every class should realise the importance of education. It is time that we started thinking beyond food, clothing and shelter.
