LAHORE: A woman was killed while 11 other people were injured as rain that was heavy in eastern parts lashed Lahore on Tuesday, providing immediate relief against harsh weather conditions prevailing in the city for around a week.

Rain was accompanied by strong winds that uprooted trees and billboards.

Ishrat of Manga Mandi was killed when the roof of her house caved in during rain. Furqan and Jalal of the same family were injured.

Liaquat, Ali, Shaukat and Faisal were injured when the roof of their house in Baghbanpura collapsed.

In Hanjarwal, Tariq and Zafar were injured when the wall of a house collapsed during rain.

Tanvir and two others were injured as a signboard fell on them on Multan Road.

The Met office said rain was heavy around the airport than in the main city. It recorded 57mm of rain at the airport and 10mm at its Jail Road observatory. Low-lying areas around the airport and eastern parts of the city were inundated during and after the rain.

The city’s maximum temperature dropped to 33.2 degrees Celsius much to the delight of those fasting.

The Met office also reported 47mm of rain in Kasur, 41mm in Layyah, 30mm in Murree and 26mm in Muzaffarabad. Several other cities also in Punjab received light rain. It expected more rain across the country in the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the Flood Forecasting Division forecast fairly widespread thunderstorm rain (from Wednesday to Friday ) with isolated moderate falls at scattered places and heavy falls at isolated places and very heavy falls at one or two places over Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan’s hill torrents.

Fairly widespread thunderstorm and rain with isolated moderate falls at scattered places and heavy falls at isolated places was also expected over Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Lahore, Gujranwala divisions along with Sindh and Kashmir.

Isolated thunderstorm/rain was expected over Sargodha, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi divisions along with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and northeast Balochistan.
