LAHORE, Dec 11: Feasibility study for biomass power generation and establishment of a medical college at Dera Ghazi Khan were among the eight development schemes approved by the Punjab government on Wednesday with an estimated cost of Rs8.815 billion.

The schemes were approved in the 21st meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party of 2013-14 fiscal year, presided over by Punjab Planning and Development Board Chairman Irfan Elahi.

According to a spokesman, the approved schemes included engagement of short-term consultant to conduct feasibility study for Biomass Power Generation in Punjab PC-II) at a cost of Rs6.30 million; establishment of Ghazi Khan Medical College at Dera Ghazi Khan (revised) at a cost of Rs1,443.837 million; reconstruction or rehabilitation of damaged shops, Masjid and Madrassa Taleemul Quran in Raja Bazaar of Rawalpindi at a cost of Rs315.020 million.

The road sector schemes approved were dualisation of Gujranwala-Sialkot Road (Gujranwala to Daska section, length 21.87 km) in Gujranwala and Sialkot districts (third revised) at a cost of Rs2,082.252 million; dualisation of Gujranwala-Sialkot Road (Daska to Sialkot section, length 25.73 km) in Sialkot district (fifth revised) at a cost of Rs3,079.993 million; dualisation of Lahore-Jaranwala-Faisalabad-Jhang-Bhakkar Road (Buchekee to Jaranwala section, from km No 81.47 to 103, length 21.53 km) in Faisalabad district (revised) at a cost of Rs641.728 million; rehabilitation of road from Lower Topa (Danna) to Gulehra Gali to Patriata Top (length 17 kms) at a cost of Rs270.916 million and widening or improvement of Pattoki to Kanganpur Road (length 54.10 kms) in Kasur district (revised) at a cost of Rs975.333 million.
