A rally for peace

LAHORE, May 8 The Concerned Citizens of Pakistan (CCP) on Friday staged a peace rally at Liberty Roundabout against the elements threatening Pakistan's unity and peace.

Speaking at the rally, attended by a cross section of society, CCP President Hamid Zaman said Pakistan's integrity was in danger. “We shall fight those who are against Pakistan.”

Zaman said the rally had been staged to express solidarity with the government and armed forces fighting militants in Swat and other areas.

The rally, staged in all major cities of the country simultaneously at 810pm, was a show of solidarity against the powers which wanted to harm Pakistan.

The rally participants, carrying national flags, lit candles, made a large circle of candles at Liberty Roundabout and raised slogans against the Taliban.

Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal (retired) read some verses from Iqbal's poetry that were relevant to the situation prevailing in the country. The rally participants sung the national anthem and prayed for Pakistan.
