LAHORE, Oct 10: Punjab Governor Muhammad Safdar on Wednesday urged the educated people and intellectuals to give priority to national interests in view of the internal and external threats to the country and play their role in guiding the younger generation in the right direction.

He was talking to a 55-member delegation of leading educationists, principals of boys and girls colleges and senior teachers at the Governor’s House. Punjab Education Minister Akhtar Saeed and Lahore Nazim Mian Aamir were also present on the occasion.

The governor said the country was undergoing a critical period. The sensitivity of the present conditions required the people to maintain exemplary unity among their rank and file and strengthen the government for guarding against any threat to the country.

He said the government policy to support international community in its drive against terrorism was based on principles.

He said political and religious parties must indulge in politics revolved only around national interests and refrain from resorting to actions that could create anarchy and destabilize the country.

He said those smashing the screens of vehicles, damaging property and burning tyres on roads were not serving Islam and Pakistan, and it was the duty of a genuine leadership to raise above personal and party motives to lead the people in a right direction.

He urged teachers not to let students misguided by the propaganda of the vested interests and create awareness among them regarding the decisions of the government.
