GUJRANWALA, June 30 SNGPL regional office's employees went on a one-hour pen-down strike on Wednesday to protest delay in arrest of alleged killer(s) of a billing supervisor during a robbery and demanded early arrest of the accused.

At a meeting of the employees, association leaders Arshad Tarer, Zahid Gondal, Azhar Cheema and Kamran Bajwa said their colleague, Muhammad Shahzad, was shot dead by the robbers a few days ago when he was returning to his home. But, the police had not arrested the suspects so far, they said, and added their pen-down strike from 9am to 10am would continue daily till the arrest of the accused.

On the other hand, the subscribers, who have to visit the regional office, are facing a great deal of inconvenience.

GEPCO The Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) has abolished unscheduled loadshedding of power and 175MW electricity, which was being saved by closing all furnace industries from 5pm, was instead being provided to domestic consumers to avoid more loadshedding.

Gepco Chief Executive Muhammad Ibrahim Majoke said this while addressing the advisory committee meeting at his office on Wednesday.

He said air-conditioners at the offices of below BS-20 Gepco officials had been removed while a similar action was being taken in other government offices with co-ordination of the district administration.

He appealed to industrialists to decide about their weekly holiday which would be helpful in saving more energy.

Gepco General Manager Sheikh Muhammad Ilyas said some important steps, including reduction of 50 per cent load of government offices and 66 per cent reduction of streetlights load and closure of markets at 8pm daily, were useful in saving energy.

Four die Four people, including a minor girl, were killed in three incidents in and around the city on Wednesday.

In the first incident, Aftab Ahmad opened fire on his brothers Ijaz Ahmad and Imtiaz Ahmad over a farmland row in Kamoke. As a result, Ijaz and five-year-old Faiza, daughter of Imtiaz, were killed and Imtiaz was injured.

Imtiaz was said to be in a critical condition in the district headquarters hospital.

In the second incident, a workshop man killed a land owner and took away Rs25,000 from him in Kamoke.

The alleged killer was identified as Imran and victim as Rafiq.

In another incident, a youth gunned down his sister for 'honour' in Qila Dedar Singh.

Ayaz opened fire at his sister after an argument with her over her affair with a man of the same town. Ayaz fled after the incident.
