Islamabad has 827 mosques

ISLAMABAD, Nov 12: The National Assembly was told on Monday that Islamabad has 827 mosques belonging to different sects.

In response to a question, asked by Nighat Parveen Mir of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the ministry of interior informed the lower house of the parliament that besides 827 mosques, there were 280 seminaries.

Majority of the mosques, according to the written reply, belonged to the Brailvi sect (460) followed by Deobandi (285), Ahle Tashee (36) and Ahle Hadith (34).

Among seminaries, the ministry told the house, 118 belonged to the Brailvi school of though, 147 to Deobandi, five Ahle Tashee and eight to Ahle Hadith. It said the survey of mosques and seminaries was done on regular basis.

About other measures, which the city police had taken for security of the city included regular surveys of rented houses to keep an eye on new residents.

Moreover, the city has a total of 60 check points-- City Zone 24, Saddar 18, Industrial Area 14, Rural area 4—which have been established on various key points. A thorough checking of all exit and entry points of the city is also carried out quite regularly.

Moreover, the ICT has 29 temporary checkposts--12 in City Zone, 9 in Saddar Zone, 10 in Industrial Area Zone-- which work from 4pm to 10pm.   Whereas, from 1:59pm to 6am the number of check posts are increased to 126.

The patrolling system of the city has been revamped with 30 squads of motorcycles along with 6 commando vehicles deployed at various points.
