Nawabzada Hoti passes away

MARDAN, Oct 18: Veteran politician and former federal minister Nawabzada Mohammad Ali Khan Hoti passed away at a private hospital in Islamabad on Thursday after protracted illness.

Survived by a widow, two sons and five daughters, Nawabzada Hoti was born in 1922 in Hoti area of Mardan. He got his early education in Germany and later graduated from a college in Lahore.

He remained an active member of Freedom Movement during his student life. Nawabzada Hoti joined Pakistan Muslim League in 1943. He was elected provincial general secretary of the party in 1945. During the Pakistan Movement, he along with other political activists was arrested by the then government and was sent to Dera jail. He remained in the jail for some time.

Nawabzada Hoti was elected member of the East Pakistan Assembly in 1965. He also worked as federal minister for health and education. He was elected member of the Senate in 1985 and again in 1988 and was also elected leader of the house.

Nawabzada Hoti was elected central senior vice-president of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in 2010. However, he couldn’t take part in political activities due to his health problems.

He was admitted to a private hospital in Islamabad and was under-treatment since then but could not survive and breathed his last on Thursday. According to the family sources, funeral prayers of the deceased would be offered on Friday at 11pm.  He would be buried in his ancestral graveyard in Hoti area.
