Women and public transport

MANY women are working outside the homes to support their families and using the local transport to reach destinations.

While the local transport system facilitates the people, especially women, it has many drawbacks that need serious attention.

Travelling becomes a painful experience for them because of stares from both the drivers and the passengers. Women feel unsafe while travelling by public transport. Drivers display uncivilised behaviour towards womem passengers which is extremely annoying.

Loud vulgar music is also played throughout the journey, which is very disturbing for women passengers.

Women use front seats next to the driver, as these are assigned to them. It is our duty to respect the women passengers, as they are also like our mothers, sisters, and daughters.

We must raise our voice to stop this uncivilised activity. As such situations amount to women pressing charges of sexual harassment against such drivers, women must register complaints whenever they come across such problem.

The anti-harassment act is meant to provide support to working women, and their problems can be solved on registering a complaint.

Sadia WAli Karachi. M. Uzair Niazi i agree with your view that women face great problems while travelling in public transport. Due to increasing sexual harassment, women feel more frightened to travel by bus. I believe that Unlesss men develop civic sense and respect women in every field of life, we cannot become a civilized nation. Women can tackle all their social problems if they boldly face the circumstances and confidently raise their voice against any kind of injustice or harm done to them.

One way to solve this problem is to switch the seating of women in the local transport. Men's seating should start from the front and the womens from the back. This way men will not aloways be staring at women. Considering that there are always less women than men travelling in a local trasnport, the women shall have priority seating rignts from the back side of the bus to the front. If a womna enters a bus, a able man should give his seat to the woman .

Salute to repeated democratic and military federal and local governments who have failed miserably in terms of civic management. It is not just the fault of our so called political leadership but also the people because everybody lack the vision. This nation will continue to suffer as long as corrupt and good for nothing Civil Sevants will be appointed on the basis of quota system and references instead of merit.

Uzair Niazi i appreciate that you have raised voice against this shameful act of drivers and passengers. but 1 thing, i think is important we have to give awareness to these drivers regarding the respect of the women passengers and about music that is played in buses. until we make them understand we can not make a safe environment.

Everybody recognizes this problem, but there seems to be no solution. It is a complecated cultural problem.

so true kill all illiteracy . drivers should behave gentle and make passengers comfortable and law in order should have to be responsible for security of women in travel
