ASSEN (Netherlands), June 25: Yamaha’s Ben Spies celebrated his first MotoGP win at the Dutch TT on Saturday on the 50th anniversary of the Japanese manufacturer’s arrival in Grand Prix racing.

While he savoured the triumph, his world champion team-mate Jorge Lorenzo slated Honda’s Marco Simoncelli for a first lap collision and called for him to be suspended.

American Spies, starting in second place in damp conditions, was the first new winner in MotoGP since Italian Andrea Dovizioso in 2009.

Australian Casey Stoner finished second for Honda, with Dovizioso third, to stretch his championship lead over an angry Lorenzo to 28 points.—Reuters
