JHANG, Jan 31: Yousaf Mujahid, a founder member and former central secretary-general of a defunct outfit, Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP), was found dead on Saturday morning after being shot in chest by unidentified assailants near flood embankment in Sadar police precincts.

Mujahid was on routine morning walk from his house in Bullak Shah locality to the flood embankment.

Mujahid served as ‘right-hand’ of the late Maulana Haq Nawaz Jhangvi and rose to the position of outfit’s central secretary-general. He also remained close aide of the late Maulana Essarul Haq Qasmi, Mualana Ziaur Rehman Farooqi and Maulana Azam Tariq.

Lately, however, he developed differences with the defunct outfit and supported PML-Q’s MNA Sheikh Waqas Akram during the 2008 general elections.

His funeral prayer was, however, led by Maulana Ahmed Ludhanvi of the SSP. The motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained along with the identity of the assailants.
