Chief editor of local daily killed

KHAIRPUR, Jan 13: Chief Editor of a local Sindhi daily "Nijaat" Mohammad Rafique Hashmi was assassinated in Khuhra town of Gambat taluka on Saturday.

Reports reaching here said that about three to four armed men opened fire at Mr. Hashmi when he was sitting at his Otaq (guest house) in Khuhra town. He was rushed to taluka hospital Gambat in serious condition but died before getting any medical help.

The body was handed over to relatives after post-mortem. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained and no case was registered till the story was filed.

Late Hasmi single-handedly brought out daily Nijaat in 1974-75 from Sukkur and managed its administration and reporting throughout the years.

ROBBED: Six armed men barged into the house of a jeweller, Dewandas in Munshi Mohalla in broad daylight on Saturday and deprived his wife of gold bangles, lockets and other jewellery worth lacs of rupees.

The robbers tortured Dewandas’ wife when she tried to put up resistance.
