RAWALPINDI: The Pak­­is­­tan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a spell of rain accompanied by dust and thunderstorms across most parts of the country from June 2 to 5, bringing relief from the ongoing heatwave, while warning of possible landslides in upper parts of Khyber Pakhtu­nk­hwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.

According to the Met Office, a westerly wave is likely to approach the upper parts of the country on June 2 and persist until June 5.

Under the influence of this weather system, scattered dust/thunderstorm-rain, with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, is expected in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Murree, Gall­iyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhe­l­um, Mandi Baha­ud­din, Gujrat, Gujra­nwala, Hafi­zabad, Wazira­bad, La­h­ore, Sheikhupura, Sia­l­kot, Nar­owal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bha­kkar, Mia­nwali, Baha­w­al­pur, Bahaw­alnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khan­ewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan and Layyah from June 2 to June 5 with occasional gaps.

Scattered rain-wind/thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, are expected in Azad Kashmir’s Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber and Mirpur from June 2 to June 5 with occasional gaps.

Rain-wind/thunderstorms are expected in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche and Shigar from June 4 to 6 with occasional gaps.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, scattered rain-wind/thunderstorms, with isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, are expected in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Shan­gla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Khyber, Waziristan, Orakzai, Manse­hra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Hangu and Kurram from June 2 to 5 with occasional gaps.

In Balochistan, dust/thunderstorm-rain is expected in northeastern parts of the province, including Quetta, Zhob, Sherani, Ziarat, Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Barkhan and Dera Bugti, from June 2 to June 4.

In Sindh, dust/thunderstorm-rain is expected in upper parts of the province, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur and Shaheed Benazirabad, from June 2 to June 4.

Regarding possible impacts, the Met Office said windstorms, hailstorms and lightning may damage vulnerable structures, including solar panels, electric poles and billboards, during the forecast period.

It warned that landslides may occur in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from June 3 to 6, and advised farmers to manage their crops in accordance with prevailing weather conditions.

The Met Office also urged tourists and travellers to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the forecast period.

It further advised the authorities concerned to remain vigilant and take necessary measures to avert any untoward situation.
