KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan Chairman and Federal Education Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui called on President Asif Zardari here at Bilawal House on Saturday evening.

It is the first formal contact between the two parties after the removal of Kamran Tessori as Sindh governor.

Sources said issues pertaining to Karachi uplift projects, particularly those underway with federal funding and relations between the PPP and MQM-P came under discussion.

It was agreed to maintain a working relationship between the two parties to resolve public issues in the province, they said, adding that the meeting also discussed Dr Siddiqui’s plan to implement an education emergency across the country, particularly in Sindh.

Senior MQM-P leader Aminul Haque confirmed to Dawn that the meeting did take place and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was also present.
