ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reached Qatar’s capital on a two-day official visit.

During his stay, the prime minister will meet Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Foreign Office (FO) said, adding that the Doha visit is being undertaken at the invitation of the Qatari emir.

The FO explained that PM Shehbaz will hold a bilateral meeting with Sheikh Tamim, “covering the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, including political engagement, economic collaboration, energy partnership, and people-to-people excha­nges”.

“The two sides will also explore new avenues of cooperation, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, energy, infrastructure development, and manpower export.”

The FO said the two countries shared a “longstanding partnership ­ by mutual trust and close coordination at regional and international forums”.

“The visit will also provide an opportunity for both leaders to exchange views on regional and global developments of mutual interest, reaffirming their resolve to work closely for peace, stability, and prosperity in the region,” the statement said.

“The visit reflects the deep-rooted fraternal ties between the two countries and underscores their shared commitment to further strengthening multifaceted cooperation,” the FO noted.

The prime minister is accompanied by deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, other ministers, and senior officials.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had travelled to the United States at the invitation of President Donald Trump to participate in a high-level gathering focused on Gaza and broader peace efforts.

After the US visit, the premier arrived in London in the early hours of Saturday morning, where he stayed for two days before leaving for Qatar.
