BANNU: Terrorists allegedly kidnapped an official of the CPEC police and set his house on fire in the Dogar Umarzai area here on Friday, while unidentified gunmen attacked the residence of a local journalist on Thursday night.

Police sources said that around 40 to 50 armed terrorists entered the policeman’s house, abducted him and later set his house ablaze.

They added that the kidnapped constable had been identified as Qadeer, who was serving in the CPEC police.

The police said that an investigation was underway into the alleged kidnapping.

Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen opened fire at the residence of former president of Bannu Press Club, Ihsan Khattak.

Mr Khattak, who is affiliated with a private TV channel, said unknown armed men opened fire at the main gate of his house on Thursday night. Fortunately, no casualties were reported, he added.

He stated that for several weeks, unidentified motorcyclists had been following him, prompting him to submit an application for protection at Saddar police station.

Mr Khattak said that he had no personal enmity or dispute with anyone.

The Saddar police registered a case and initiated an investigation.

The Bannu Press Club condemned the attack and demanded an immediate and transparent inquiry to bring those responsible to justice.

Journalistic bodies, traders’ organisations, and civil society members have urged the government, law enforcement agencies, and security institutions to ensure the safety of journalists so they can perform their duties without fear.
