LAHORE: Public and private universities in Lahore have jointly launched the Lahore Inter-University League to strengthen collaboration in education and student welfare.
Under this initiative, the universities agreed to work together in curricular and co-curricular activities.
Punjab Minister for Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat, Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan and vice chancellors of 17 universities attended the concluding ceremony where universities formally entered into a framework of understanding.
Beaconhouse National University Vice Chancellor Dr Moeed Yousaf said the agreement aimed at fostering academic cooperation, collaborative research, and community engagement.
GCU VC Prof Dr Omer Chaudhry said the framework covered 15 areas, including student and faculty exchange, collaborative research, joint academic events, incubation centers, resource sharing, and professional training. The agreement will remain valid for three years, with membership open to other universities in Lahore.
Under the initiative, the first event, the Khawaja Khurshid Anwar Music Competition, was held at the Govt College University (GCU), where the students from 17 universities participated in 15 categories of vocal and instrumental music. Ustad Hamid Ali Khan of the Patiala Gharana and singer Humaira Channa served as judges.
The students who got first prizes included Ghulam Qambar, Khan Afsar, Safeera Johni, Ghiyas Haider, Tuba Khalid, Mubashir Hassan, Amina Batool, Abbas Farooq, Tussal Mehdi, Areeba Shafiq, Muhammad Abbas, Robinson and Ghulam Shabbir. Others got second and third prizes.
